Important information for passengers
When you travel with a shipping company from Ports of Stockholm, you pass through one of our port facilities. The port facilities are covered by several pieces of legislation that aim to make your journey by sea safe. In the port facilities, the Maritime Security Act, the Port Security Act and the Security Act apply, among others.
The port facilities are usually also civilian protection objects, which means that a person must be able to show an identity document and explain their purpose for being there upon request.
As part of the security work, controls are carried out in all of our ports. These are always performed by uniformed personnel. The controls mean that you as a traveller can have your luggage or vehicle searched or X-rayed. Visitations may also take place to see what you as a traveller are carrying. The checks aim to find, for example, knives, weapons or other dangerous objects, but also unauthorized passengers.
As fars as weapons are concerned, these must always be reported to the shipping company in advance and handled according to their instructions. This means that a significant part or the entire weapon must be handed over to the shipping company during the journey.
Regardless of whether you are traveling with your own vehicle or as a walking passenger, sharp objects may never be carried in the port facility, the terminal building or during the journey. Sharp objects with a blade length of more than 6 centimetre, such as a knife with a fixed or folding blade, multi-tool, scissors or similar, must be placed in checked baggage or kept locked in your vehicle during the journey.
A guard who carries out a check always has the mandate to decide that an object shall be taken into custody and kept by the ship during the journey.
