Stockholm Norvik Port inaugurates new port facility – paving the way for a business and logistics Park

On 16 October, Ports of Stockholm inaugurated a new port facility at Stockholm Norvik Port, enabling large volumes of crushed rock to be efficiently shipped by sea. The removal of the material will free up valuable space in the port and marks the starting point for NCC Industry’s planned business and logistics park. The initiative further strengthens Stockholm Norvik’s role as a key logistics hub in the Baltic Sea region.
A stockpile of crushed rock, originally generated during the extensive construction work at Stockholm Norvik, has been stored in the port area. A new facility for the efficient loading of aggregates onto vessels has now been inaugurated. The facility consists of two pile-supported jetties and was built for NCC Industry. It can accommodate large bulk carriers, creating the conditions for cost-efficient transport of crushed rock to the many infrastructure projects in the Baltic Sea region.
As the aggregates is transported away, large areas of Stockholm Norvik Port will be freed up. These areas will provide an important foundation for new businesses and mark the starting point for NCC Industry’s planned business and logistics park.
– The new port facility is an important step in the development of Stockholm Norvik. By enabling us to ship the aggregates more efficiently, we can free up valuable port space and open up opportunities for new businesses in the area. Together with NCC Industry’s plans for a business and logistics park, this will further strengthen Stockholm Norvik’s position as a key logistics hub for Swedish imports and exports,” says Johan Wallén, Chief Commercial Officer at Ports of Stockholm.
For NCC Industry, the initiative creates new opportunities to develop an area where businesses can benefit from the port’s proximity and excellent transport links.
–Stockholm Norvik’s strategic location and extensive development areas create favourable conditions for businesses that require efficient logistics solutions. We see great potential in further developing the area together with NCC Industry,” Johan Wallén continues.
The new port facility was officially inaugurated on 16 October, although the shipment of aggregates had already been underway for some time thanks to strong demand. The facility also opens up new opportunities to ship aggreagates to additional markets.
Stockholm Norvik Port is Sweden’s newest port – a modern RoRo and container port located closest to Sweden’s by far largest consumer market.
