More cruise ships to Stockholm – peak season starts on 19 March
Published 3/18/2026
The peak season for international cruise ships in Ports of Stockholm begins on 19 March when the vessel Hanseatic Nature arrives at Frihamnen. In 2026, Stockholm is expected to receive 157 cruise ship calls – continuing the positive upward trend seen in recent years – with traffic now taking place throughout the year.
International cruise traffic in Ports of Stockholm continues to develop positively, with the upward trend in the number of calls showing no signs of slowing. More ships are calling at Stockholm and more passengers are expected to visit the city during the year.
“It's fantastic to see that the number of cruise ships continues to grow in the Baltic Sea. Occupancy on board is high, and more passengers mean more activity for Stockholm and the surrounding region,” says Stefan Scheja, Marketing Manager Ferries and Cruises at Ports of Stockholm.
21 of this year's calls will be made at the Port of Nynäshamn, which also means more calls than before.
One third of all passengers travel with shipping companies that target the German market. The shipping company AIDA Cruises accounts for the most visits – a total of 32 calls during the season.
New shipping company and new vessels to Stockholm in 2026
Several ships will visit Stockholm for the first time in 2026, and a brand new shipping company will make its debut. Explora Journeys will call at Stockholm with the ship Explora III on 28–29 August.
Other new ships include: National Geographic Endurance, Norwegian Sun, Carnival Legend and Mein Schiff Relax, which is also the largest ship of the year.
“Stockholm is now one of the most attractive cruise destinations in the Baltic Sea. Through investments in onshore power and the possibility for vessels to discharge wastewater in port, we can welcome cruise ships in a more sustainable way while further strengthening Stockholm’s role as a sustainable premium destination,” says Jens Holm, Chair of the Board of Ports of Stockholm.
Sustainability and service
Ships can discharge wastewater at all cruise berth at Ports of Stockholm. At Stadsgården, the Port of Stockholm has two electrical connections at the quay. Shore power enables more cruise ships to plug in directly at the quay, reducing both emissions and noise levels in the city while supporting Stockholm’s role as a sustainable destination.
