Historical when two cruise ships were connected to OPS simultaneously

May 8 was the day when two cruise vessels for the very first time were connected to onshore power simultaneously at the same quay at Ports of Stockholm. In addition, one of Viking Line's* ferries was also connected to electricity at the same quay.
Ports of Stockholm’s first onshore power facility for cruise ships was inaugurated in 2024 and the second in 2025. Now, both facilities have been used simultaneously for the first time.
The fact that the cruise ships that are berthed in Stockholm now have the opportunity to be emission-free at berth is a big step towards achieving the joint environmental goal of Ports of Stockholm and the City of Stockholm to have zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.
“We see that the demand for onshore connection for cruise ships is increasing every year. It is clear that the cruise industry is focused on making cruise trips a sustainable holiday alternative,” says Stefan Scheja, Marketing Manager Ferries and Cruises at Ports of Stockholm.
When allocating berths, Ports of Stockholm prioritizes vessels that have electricity connections. Ships that can connect to electricity are offered a premium berth at the Stadsgården quay in the inner city.
