Cruise traffic in Stockholm continues to grow

Published 11/3/2026

As Stockholm’s cruise season draws to a close, the positive trend continues. The number of cruise calls is up 13 per cent on last year, and two cruise lines and seven ships have visited Stockholm for the first time. Stockholm retains its position as one of the Baltic Sea’s most popular cruise destinations.

Stockholm continues to attract cruise lines from around the world. With the cruise season nearing its end, the number of calls is set to exceed last year’s figure. In 2026, the city has welcomed new cruise lines and ships, while returning operators have increased their number of calls.

Ports of Stockholm expects to receive 154 cruise calls and approximately 277,000 passengers in 2026. This represents an increase of 13 per cent in calls and 8 per cent in passenger numbers compared with last year.

“We are delighted that the positive trend in cruise traffic at Ports of Stockholm is continuing and looks set to carry on in the coming years. We are proud that Stockholm retains its position as one of the Baltic Sea’s most popular cruise destinations. This is also reflected in the fact that, for the second consecutive year, we have cruise calls in every month of the year,” says Stefan Scheja, Marketing Manager, Ferries and Cruises, at Ports of Stockholm.

Last year, Ports of Stockholm inaugurated its second OPS - Onshore Power Supply, for cruise ships at Stadsgården in Stockholm, also the second such connection in Sweden. This year, cruise ships have connected to shore power on 59 calls, reducing both emissions and noise while in port.

“By investing in shore power and providing wastewater reception facilities, we can accommodate cruise ships more sustainably. This helps make Stockholm a more attractive city for visitors and residents alike, while strengthening its position as a sustainable premium destination,” says Jens Holm (Left Party), Chair of the Board of Ports of Stockholm.

For the second consecutive year, Stockholm has cruise calls in every month of the year. Between November and March, 15 calls are scheduled, including a New Year visit by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ Hanseatic.
