All cargo segments at Ports of Stockholm recorded positive growth during the first half of the year compared with the same period last year. This includes containers, bulk cargo, ferry-borne freight and rail wagons.
During the first half of the year, ferry-borne freight volumes increased by just over three per cent to approximately 3.1 million tonnes. Container traffic increased by 14 per cent compared with the corresponding period in the previous year.
“The positive development in both container and RoRo traffic demonstrates the important role of shipping in supplying goods to the region. Transporting more freight by sea creates the conditions for efficient and sustainable transport flows to and from Stockholm,” says Johan Wallén, Chief Commercial Officer at Ports of Stockholm.
Cargo volume growth during the first half of 2026

• Container traffic increased by 14 per cent
• Bulk cargo volumes increased by 6 per cent
• The number of rail wagons increased by 17 per cent to almost 3,400, even before data for the latest quarter had been reported
• Ferry-borne freight volumes increased by 3.4 per cent to approximately 3.1 million tonnes
Ports of Stockholm is one of the world’s largest passenger ports and one of Sweden’s largest freight ports. Every year, more than seven million ferry and cruise passengers and over seven million tonnes of cargo pass through the ports, helping to secure the region’s supply of goods.
