In the first nine months, container volumes at the container terminal, Ports of Stockholm increased by ten percent compared to last year.
The increase occurs on a globally declining market, indicating a clear trend that more and more cargo owners and shipping companies choose to take the goods by sea, close to the growing Stockholm as possible.
"It is extremely gratifying that the market now choose to take more goods by sea to and from the growing Stockholm region", says Henrik Widerståhl, vice president and marketing director at Ports of Stockholm. "It provides environmental benefits and relieves road and rail."
The positive volume trend is now being enhanced further when MSC, one of the world's largest container shipping companies, choose to call Ports of Stockholm from October 2012.
The shipping companies Unifeeder, Team Lines, SCA Transforest and MSC now all call Stockholm. This means that there are frequent calls to and from Rotterdam and Hamburg.
