Cruise season 2012 was a huge success for Ports of Stockholm, with cruise passenger numbers reaching a record high. A total of 274 cruise ships called at Stockholm and Nynäshamn during the season.
The new record sum total of cruise passengers was 467 000.
"Stockholm is a popular tourist destination and that is clearly demonstrated by all of the cruise ships that choose to come to us. Cruise passenger revenue is important for Stockholm, with voyagers estimated to spend between SEK 400-450 million each season on restaurant visits, excursions, hotel nights and shopping”, says City of Stockholm Commissioner of Finance and Municipal Board Chair Sten Nordin (M).
Cruise season 2012 facts
A total of 274 cruise ships called at Ports of Stockholm ports between 7 May and 2 October 2012. The number of passengers was 467 000. This equates to 17 000 passengers more than in 2011. There were 51 turnarounds, meaning voyages beginning or ending in Stockholm.
Ports of Stockholm is working to be able to meet the demands of the larger ships of the future, including making improvements to the quayside for the cruise ships outside the cruise terminal at Frihamnen. The quay is being extended by 80 metres and this work will be completed by the spring of 2013.
